Brief Description: The complete book for introducing the 42 letter sounds to 3-4 year old children. For many families and pre-schools this will be the definitive ABC book, with the advantage of being phonic, so showing all the letter sounds, not just the alphabet.

Full Description: Each double page spread has one (or sometimes two) letter sounds, with a story involving the Jolly Phonics characters of Inky, Snake and Bee. A large letter is embossed on each spread so the formation can be felt by little fingers. Each spread has a number of words for reading and for spelling, along with the Jolly Phonics action.

Context: As the Jolly Stories are especially suitable for pre-school they are best listed in pre-school catalogues. Jolly Phonics is now used in 68% of UK Primary schools and has defined the way in which phonics is seen. For instance, the first six letters in Jolly Phonics (s, a, t, i, p and n) are used in the government’s new programme, ‘Letters and Sounds’ and in the new classroom programmes from Harcourt, Collins and Pearson’. The Jolly Stories has this feature and much more. It is a book children will treasure as it unlocks for them the secrets of reading and writing.
