I remember coming to teach in and run Jeddah Prep School many moons ago and discovering just how isolated we were in terms of equipment and professional development after the wonderful backup I had enjoyed from the old ILEA (Inner London Education Authority) when I taught in London. All our teaching materials and books had to come from the UK and this was limited to a once a year shipment because of the prohibitive costs. If we wanted visits from in-service  professionals we had to pay air fares, hotel costs and fees and not many educators wanted to visit us.

How things have changed! Now for those of you fortunate enough to teach in the Gulf region your teaching resources, professional development and your personal further education are available on your doorstep and all at very reasonable costs.
